An Act to remove doubt* as to the Constitution qf the Bishopric of Christchurch in New ■Zealand, and toenaMe ffer Majesty to constitute such Bisfopru* and to subdivide the . Diocese of New Zealand.— [lsfcJuly, 1852/J \J\f HUKEAS Her Majesty, by Letters * T Potent under the Great Seal, bearing date the Fourteenth Day of October One thousand eight hundred and farty.one, and in the Fifth Year of Her Reign, did make, ordain, and 'constitute the Colony of New Zealand into a BiahopVSee t>r Diocese, by the name or style of the Bishopric of New- Zealand, and did .nominate and appoint George Augustus Sclwyn Clerk to be Bishop and ordinary Pastor of the said See for the term of his natural fife, subject to such right of resignation as in the said Letters Patent is expressed : And whereas, by reason of the extent of the said Diocese, it is expedient that provision should be made for the subdirision thereof: And whereas, in order to «uch subdivision, the said George Augustus Selwyn hath, by an instrument under his hand hand and seftl, beating date the Ninth Bar of May One thousand eight hundred and "fifty-one, resigned and surrendered so much of the said See or Diocese of New Zealand as lies to the southward of a geographical line drawn across the Middle Island, otherwise called New Minster, at the Northern boundary of the Canterbury territory : And whereas doubts are entertamed as to the vafiditx of the said nstramest of resignation : Be $' enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and whh tile advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of tfct same, as follows : Surrendered Portion of Ditcese of Km Ztatmi erected into a distinct See,
