WELLINGTON BUILDING SOCIETY.

On Friday evening last, the first yearly meeting of the members of the Wellington Building Society was held in the Hall of the Mechanics' Institute to receive the report of the Committee, and for the transaction of other business. The Chairman (Mr. Woodward) explained that no Auditors had hitherto been appointed, and as this was the first yearly meeting of the members, the first thing, in his opinion to be done, was to appoint such officers ; it was indispensably necessary that the accounts of the past year should be audited before they could pass on to the business of the evening. It was then proposed by Mr. Vaughan and seconded by Mr. J. E. Watkin, that Messrs. R. R. Lambert, W. Seed, and B. Gordon be appointed Auditors. The proposition was" carried and the auditors then retired to audit the accounts for the past year. ' The Chairman said that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of hearing and receiving the, report of the Committee, and of appointing four members to act on the Committee in the place of those who retire by rotation. In order to expedite the business of the meeting, he thought it better to proceed at once to such election. The members retiring were Messrs, G. Edwards, C. R. Carter, E. Stafford, and J. Woodward, who were all eligible for reelection. The following names,in^ addition to the above four, having been duly proposed and seconded, would also be submitted fo - elect on. Messrs. R. E. Bannister, F. A. Duncan, and D. Johnson. Mr. George Allen having demanded a poll, ■ Messrs. W. Seed and B. Gordon were appointed to act as scrutineers. At the expiration of the hour the poll closed, when the scrutineers ! declared the number of votes to be as follows — F. A. Duncan, 19 ; R. E. Bannister, C. R. Carter, 20 ; J. Woodward, 25 ; who were accordingly declared to be duly elected to serve on the Committee. The following report of the Committee and also the Balance sheet, were then read by Mr. Allen, and upon the motion of Mr. Seed, seconded by Mr. D. Lewis, unanimously adopted.
