SYDNEY.
Bank or Australia. — We are glad to be able to announce that the claim of the Bank of Australasia against the Bank of Australia has been satisfied, and a receipt given in fall of all demands. The amount actually paid, including nearly £60,000 for interest, was £225,000. When we consider the circumstances under which this liability was contracted, and the gloomy prospects of the shareholders when it became evident that they would be compelled to payit.it is a matter of congratulation thatjthe incubus has been got rid of without derangingjthe public credit, and with but a small amount of private suffering. The Directors, who have devoted their energies to winding up the affairs of this unfortunate institution, and have accomplished their difficult task so successfully, are entitled to the gratitude, not only of the shareholders, but of the public generally. — &. M. Herald.
