NELSON.

NELSON WORKING MAN'S SHEEP ASSOSOCIATION. [From the Nelson Examiner, July 10.] The first annual meeting of the Shareholders in the ahove Association was held in Bridgestreet School-room on Wednesday evenings the 30th- June, and was well attended. Mr, J. P. Robinson having been called to. the chair^ the Secretary, Mr. I. M. Hill, read the following Report and the Financial Accounts for th.Q past year : —

_ _ REPORT. " Your Directors, in submitting to the Shareholders a statement of the business transacted during the past year* cannot but congratulate , them. upon the satisfactory position which the Association has obtained." The number of- shares actually taken since the formation of the AssocU

ation was 330. Upon forty-nine of these no ; payment was made beyond the eotrance fees, and as the parties who had taken the,m declined to continue their subscriptions, these shares have been declared to be forfeited for the beneat of the Association. Upon thirty-three more of these shares some trifling payment bad been made, but for the same reason they have also been declared to be forfeited for the benefit of the Association. Tbe number of shares now held, and upon which payments are now regularly made, is 248, and the Shareholders comprise every class of persons in the settlement. "Your Directors entered into contracts with Mr. Charles Christie for the purchase of his runs and a considerable number of sheep. The contracts were in every respect advantageous to the Association, * as Mr. Christie consented to accept the purchase money in proportion as the subscriptions upon the shares were paid up. These contracts have not yet been fully earned out, owing to the absence of Mr. Christie from the colony, but your Directors expect that upon his return they will be satisfactorily' concluded. "Your Directors have, in the mean time, been put into possession of the runs, and of 553 sheep of the following description, namely— sls ewes, 12 Yams, 24 wethers, 20" weaned lambs, 8 unweaned lambs, and 4 wether lambs. lour Directors regret to report that the scab has broken out in the flock, but are assured by the shepherd of the Association that the extent of the disease is very trifling, and that he hopes shortly to eradicate it. Your Directors are also informed that the ewes are now lambing, and that there is every prospect of a good fall. •"The balance sheet to the 30th of June, duly approved and signed by 'your Auditors, will be read this evening, and aftei wards lie at the office of the Association for the inspection of the shareholders. By that balance sheet it appears that the amount actually received by the Associatiou is £553 155., of wM ch they have expended £500 16s. A balance of £53 19s. remains, together with a balance of £136 16s. 6il. due upon subscriptions to shares, and giving a total balance in favour of tbe Association of £189 17s. 6J. "Your Directors further state, that half the Directors go out of office, but are eligible for re-election." The following resolutions were then proposed, seconded, and carried unanimously :—: — - I. That the Report now read be adopted, and entered by the Secretary on the minutes. 2. That the Accounts now read be passed, 3. That the thanks of this meeting be given to the late Secretary, Mr. W. T. L. Travers, for his services as Honarary Secretary. 4. That Mr. W. T. L. Travers be requested to resume the office of Honorary Secretary. 5. That Messrs. G. Falla, and A. Aitken do cotitinue their services as Auditors for the ensuing year. The following gentlemen were then elected by ballot as Directors in the room of the ei'»ht retiring Directors : — Dr. Wilson, Capt. Frazer, Messrs. T. Foy, D. Burns, W. T. L. Travers, J. L. Bailey, J. Watts, and R. P. Outridge. A vote of thanks was then given to the Chairman, and the meeting separated.

Richmond Fair. — The fourth cattle and general, fair "was held at Richmond, on Wednesday, the 7th instant, but from the unfavourable state of the weather the attendance was not so great as on some former occasions. There was, notwithstanding a fair amount of business done, particularly in horse transactions, and good prices- were obtained for all kinds of stock. Good dairy cows were in request, for which £12 was considered a fair price ; while horses ranged from £18 to £45 — the latter sum having°been given for a gig mare lately imported from Sydney. The next fair, we perceive, will be held in paddocks provided by the Richmond Cattle Fair Association, and it certainly speaks well for the rising importance of this village that the freehold of several acres of land has been purchased* and is about to be fenced and laid down in grass, for the purpose of holding therein periodical fairs for cattle and farm produce. — Nelson Esaminer, July 17. Agricultural Association. — The meeting called at Richmond^ on the evening of the late fair, to discuss the propriety of establishing an Agricultural Association in the settlement, decided in the affirmative, and measures are to be taken, we understand, on an early day, to hold another meeting to discuss the details. — Ibid.
