NELSON.

[From the Nelson Examiner, April 10.] Richmond Cattle Fair.—We are glad to find that the Richmond Cattle Fair is to be placed for the future on a footing that will ensure its permanency. We stated, a few weeks back, that an Association was about to be formed to purchase a piece of ground, on which it was intended the Fair in future should be held, and we are now able to report that five acres of land, on the opposite side of the road to the Plough and Star and Garter Inns, have been purchased for the sum of £7O, and that arrangements will presently be made for getting the land enclosed. The number of shares of the Association was in the first instance limited to 100, of £1 each, and 93 of these were taken before the meeting held last week, when it was agreed that the shares should be extended to 250, so that the capital of the company might be sufficient to put the ground into a proper state. We have no doubt but these additional shares will also speedily be taken up. Markets.—Good wheat may be quoted at ss. per bushel, barley 55,, oats 3s. 6d. Flour is selling at £l4 a ton, but the supply has been short from a scarcity of water at the mills. The prices of other articles of produce remain unchanged. The Weather.—The dry season which usually occurs at the end of summer, broke last week, since when we have had several showers, which were much needed.
