ENGLISH EXTRACTS.

The Great Exhibition.—The following statistics of the Great Exhibition will be read with interest. The income of the establishment up to the 4th October, has been as follows :—

Il is understood that the royalty to be paid by the Messrs. Spicer and Clowes will not be enforced, in consequence of the sale of catalogues not having been as profitable as was anticipated. The expenses of management, gas, water, &c., will probably amount to £50,000 ; and the sum likely to be received during the next week for admissions will be at least £20,000. This would bring the total income up to £460,000, and the total liabilities to about £220,000 —leaving the very handsome balance in hand of £240,000, or nearly a quarter of a million sterling. The total number of visitors up to 4*.h Oct. was 5,547,238. — Observer. The English sloop, the Lord Duncan, was on Friday driven by the violence of the wind from Havre towards Honfieur, when there was no cne on board but a cabin boy. When the boy found that the vessel was before the port of HoufLur be let go the anchor, notwithstanding the difficulty of the operation, and so secured the vessel. The Custom House officers having presented themselves to visit it, the little fellow positively refused them admission, saying that he was responsible for all on board. It was not until the English consul interfered that the courageous boy allowed ihe officers to make the visit. The Lord Duncan was afterwards taken into port. — Golignani.
