A keeping was held at Barrett’s Hotel on Monday evening for the purpose of making the final arrangements for the sports for celebrating the Anniversary of this settlement. Considerable difference of opinion existed as to whether the sports should be held at Te Aro or Thorndon, and after a lengthened discussion the meeting adjourned with the understanding that subscriptions should be collected during the following day, and that the question should be decided by the votes of the subscribers. An adjourned meeting was accordingly held last night, which, after a somewhat stormy contention, decided the sports should be held at Te Aro. So little time has been left for making the necessary arrangements that, with these divided opinions, we fear the anniversary sports are likely to prove a failure.
