These Races came off on the Ist and 2nd instant; the course was removed from that? of last year on the Warekaka plain, to a well selected and picturesque spot on Mr. Bidwell’s Station, the weather was delightfully fine, and the Company from all parts of the valley (Natives and European) although not so numerous as on former years was sufficiently so to present a scene of great animation, nor were bright eyes and sunny smiles wanting to grace the scene and encourage the ardent competitors for the honours of the day. No hurdle race took place. FIRST DAY. WAIRARAPA STAKES. Six started. Mr. Morrison's Scourge, Gordon 2 1 1 Leiut. I lutchinson’s Screw, Scroggs... .3 2 3 Native Owner , Native 4 3 2 Maniera’s Jack, Native rider 1 bolted Native Owner Phormium Tenox, Native.. dist. Mr. M'Master’s Miss Funny, Tully ....dist. graziers purse. Four started. Captain Smith’s Mazeppa. Mr. Burton’s Colonist. . Mr. Collin’s Stockman. The race was won by Colonist. SECOND DAY. Beaten Stakes w ere won by Maniera’s Jack, who would have easily won the Wairarapa had he not bolted. Match between Mr Barton’s Colonist, and Mr. M'Master’s Miss Fanny, won easily by Colonist. Match between Mr. Burton’e Colonist, and a ch. g„ won by Colonist.
