Cuba. —The California papers received yesterday contain an account of the landing on the island of Cuba of four hundred Americans, commanded by General Loptz, for the purpose of creating a revolution. They had had several skirmishes with the Spanish troops, who hail been unable to prevent their march towards Havannah. By desertions from the Spaniards, and by Americans who were previously on the island having joined him, General Lopez was in command of two thousand men, with whom he was said to be within forty miles of the capital. It must be remembered, however, that these are American accounts. A detachment of fifty men under a Colona! Crittenden, having been taken prisoners, were declared by the Captain General to be pirates and robbers, and were ordered to be shot—a sentence which was carried into effect outside the city of Havannah. If Genera] Lopez cou’d succeed in making an entry into the capital, he expected that a large part of the population would rise, and the rebellion become successful. If he failed, as his retreat was cut. off, there was no doubt that he and all the leading men of the expedition would be treated as robbers and murderers, and be executed as fast as they fell into the hands of the authorities. The next result will bring us the result of this singular and piratical exhibition. —S. M. Herald, Nov. 29.
