WANGANUI RACES.
We have received a hurried report of these Races, from which we are only able to give the following particulars: the weather proved very favourable, great numbers of visitors assembled from all parts of the district, and several gentlemen proceeded from Wellington to witness the sport. Tom Brown won both heats easily. WANGANUI STAKES. Lieut., Trafford’s Naenae, Owner 1 1 Mr. oKipwith’s Ancient Mariner, Bromley.. 22 Mr. Green’s Maid of Erin, King The Maid of Erin started but soon pulled up, and the race was left between the other two, Naenae won both heats easily. Naenae was beautifully ridden by Lieut. Trafford, taking all her leaps in beautiful style, Bushman won the second heat in a clever manner, but in the third he had no caanec, as the mare started at a good pace and kept it throughout taking her leaps beautifully and was an easy

Mr. Watt’s Lass of Gowris, Noble ...... bolted Mr. Walt’s Baron Trench, Day ........ dist. Lieut. Trafford rode Tom Brown the 2nd and 3rd heats and made a beautiful run with Slasher, winning both heats. MAORI RACE.
This was by far the prettiest race of the meeting, as all the horses kept well together. Ruaka, ridden by Kemp, won both heats: all the riders were dressed in jockey costume, and their horses were brought out in a most creditable manner. CONSOLATION STAKES.
FRIDAY. MAORI HURDLE RACE. Slipper. Unknown Beauty Bushman Eclipse nurdles three feet high. Slipper, ridden by Kemp, won both heats; and Eclipse, by Wilson, came in a good second. Two private matches, the Canoe Race, and Rural sports terminated the meeting for 1851, and was universally acknowledged to be the best which has taken place at Wanganui.
