The Government Brig has brought us a file of the Nelson Examiner to the 25th instant, but we do not observe any local news of importance. An attempt was being made to get up a Company for local steam communication between the different settlements of New Zealand, which promised to be successful. A public meeting had been held at Motueka, which was attended by a great part of the inhabitants of the Motueka and Riwaka districts, at which a resolution was unanimously carried in favour of the formation of Nelson into a separate Province, The Government Brig made a quick passage to Nelson of twenty hours. In the Treasurer’s Abstract of Revenue and Expenditure of the Nelson district for the quarter ended 30th September, the ordinary revenue is stated to amount to £334 155., the sales of land during the quarter to £626 95., the total revenue of the quarter amounts to £1578* 10 7, and the expenditure to £1094 5 7. The total balance in
the Treasurer’s hands (including the balance from the previous quarter) is £3487 0 7.
