NELSON.

{From the Nelson Examiner, October 18.] We think we may congratulate the colonists of New Zealand on the prospect of getting Steam Communication on our coast within as short a period as will be absolutely necessary for making the requisite arrangements. As far as the settlement of Nelson is concerned, we are certain, from the favour which the proposal has received to form a Steam Navigation Company, that every effort will be made to hasten the consummation of our desires, and we believe that few if any persons who have sufficient means to become shareholders, but will, to the extent of their ability, give it heir support. As by the contemplated mode of raising the capital it is not likely that more than £2 per share will be called up before the vessel proposed to be obtained from England arrives in the colony, nor beyond another ten shillings per share for several years afterwards, there are very few persons indeed in ■this settlement who will not be able to take one or more shares. Of the disposition in the other settlements of the colony we are unacquainted, but we imagine that as all will be alike benefited by the undertaking, so all will be ready to afford it assistance ; and should this be the case, the extension of the scheme so as to connect ourselves with Sydney, and thence with England, may be earlier carried out than is at present contemplated. We shall be excused, we hope, if we urge that no time should be lost in making application for shares. His Excellency the Governor is expected in Nelson in a few days, and as a great saving of time will be effected by communicating with Sir George while here on the nature of the charter he would be willing give us, the amount of bonus we might expect to look for from the Government, and other questions on which he must be consulted. it is VPrv imnnrtonf 1 ' . fcuu*. v»v OUUUIU UC piU — pared with such a share list as will bis Excellency confidence that we shall be able to carry out the object we have proposed. For these reasons, therefore, we say, let there be no delay.
