On Thursday evening Mr. Roberts delivered his second lecture on the science of Optics, as applicable to the illumination of Lighthouses, which was illustrated by numerous diagrams, &c., and which proved to be extremely interesting. A model of an apparatus for the lights ingeniously constructed by Mr. Marriott, and lighted by gas, was also very successful. The lecture was very fully attended.

We have received by the Louis and Miriam copies of Angas’s views of the Gold Field at Ophir, recently published by Messrs. Wolcott & Clarke. The series contains six n ?*,*»"'* — ' JOIU vvasu,n S ac oummerhill Creek,” “Encampment of Gold Diggers,” “ Fitzroy Bar at the junction of the Two Creeks,” “ a general view of Ophir,” “Gold Diggers arriving at Bathurst on their way to Ophii” and “ Summer Hill Creek and part of Church Hill in the distance.” The views are executed with great spirit and care, and appear to convey a very faithful idea of the district, and will, no doubt, have a very extensive sale from their value as works of art, as well as from the interest which attaches to the subject. The first and third plates, which represent the diggers hard at work are, on the whole, we think, the most effective plates of the series.
