A meeting of the Magistrates of thia district was held on Saturday last for the purpose of revising the list of persons claiming to vote for Commissioners for Wellington
under the Town Roads and Streets Ordi„ nance. Objections were offered to some o 1 the names on the list on different groundssome for non residence (persons living in country districts,) some for informality, and others for being squatters on the Town belt. The Ordinance requiring that the list of electors should be revised before the 15th September, and the following day being Sunday, the Magistrates were unable to adjourn their meeting so as to allow time for the persons objected to to support their claims, and under these circumstances the objections were withdrawn. Two names were struck off the list on the ground of informality, and the Magistrates passed the following resolutions
"Tnat the. list should be the list of electors f° r the ensuing twelve calendar months, and should be published in the Government Gazette, nJ. a rj°tice to the electors to assemble at 1 hmmer s wharf on Lambton-quay, on Monday, the 22nd September instant, between the hours of 10 a.m., and 4 p.m., to elect Commissioners. “That future meetings of the Bench, for the purpose of hearing and determining objections to the eligibility of claimants to vote, shall be convened so that sufficient time may be allowed of persons objected to, to receive notice of such objection, and to answer the same.” Monday next, the 22d inst., was fixed for the day of election, and Mr. J. Smith’s store, Lambton Quay, (Plimmer’s Wharf,) was appointed as the place where the votes were to be taken.
