New Zealand Spectator AND COOK’S STRAIT GUARDIAN. Wednesday. June 4, 1851.
By the Bramble we have received Auckland papers to the 24th ult., but they contain no news worth extracting. A levee was held by the Lieutenant Governor on the 24th, and a feast was given to the natives at Mr. Robertson’s Rope walk Mechanics’ Bay in honor of her Majesty’s birth day. A ball was also to be given by the Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. Wynyard on the 27th on an unusually extensive scale in honor of the occasion. The Gazette announces the appointment of W. Haise Esq. to be Commissioner of Crown Lands for the District of New Plymouth. The Colonial Secretary and Attorney General of New Ulster are passengers by the Bramble, and have come to attend the sittings of the Legislative Council. The Government Brig which has had a long passage of ten days from Nelson, has also brought the following Members of Council, Hon. C. Dillon and D. Bell Esq. Commissioners of Crown Lands, and G. Cutfield and O. Cautly Esquires non official members.
