LYTTELTON.
[From the Lyttelton Times, May 24.] The present week commenced with holiday making in rare style, in the shape of a pic-nic party on Monday last at Rhodes’ Bay, given by Mr. Templar and our other friends from New South Wales, to a select number of the Canterbury Colonists. We regret that press of matter prevents our giving a detailed account of the proceedings of the day. W- A •.--A _ 1 , 1 1 uk miucniduu tuttL a large puuu uas Deen launched, and is ready to ferry cattle over lhe Heathcote. The road operations on the plains are progressing satisfactorily. A bridge has been completed over the swamp at Riccarton. The Church at Christchurch is roofed, and otherwise completed on the outside. Arrangements have been made between the Association and the settlers at Akaroa, for the establishment of a school there, and a schoolmaster has,already proceeded thither.
