LYTTELTON.
[From the Lyttelton Times, May 17.] We have this week to record two untoward occurrences. The first is, the accidental destruction by fire on Friday week, of a raupo Louse, belonging co Mr. Stuart, not far from the ferry over the Heathcote. We regret to say that Mrs. Stuart was somewhat severely burnt. The event is ir-practicai censure upon the use of such easily destructible materials for any other than very temporary habitations. ; The other is an accident which happened |ast Monday to Mr. Parkinson, of Gollan’s |Bay, his horse rearing at some object in the |oad, and falling back upon him. Mr. Parkinson’s thigh was broken, and he was otherwise severely bruised; but we are glad to be jble to state that he is in a fair way of recovery. | Our little town has assumed a somewhat Busier appearance during the past week, owing to the recent arrivals from Wellington and Otago. The continuance of fine clear weaker has been most favourable to business jperations, although on Thursday the appearjnce for a time of snow upon the hill tops found the harbour reminded one of the prefence of winter.
