We understand that the long pending question of Mr. Scott’s grant, which has caused so much anxiety to those against whom the claims of that were attempted to be enforced, has at length been settled by Sir George Grey, who has completed the arrangements entered into by Mr. Fox as Principal Agent of the Company, when by the terms of the Arbitration Mr. Scott would | have been entitled to enter into possession. After the sum of Three thousand pounds had been expended in litigation during a period of more than four years, a certain amount was agreed to be paid for the purchase of i Mr. Scott’s grant. At the time fixed for the completion of the arrangement, Mr. Fox, on the part of the Company, was unable to perform the stipulations he had entered into, and Mr. Scott proceeded to take legal steps against the occupiers to obtain possession, and would have proceeded to enforce his claim, if his Excellency had not taken measures to put an end to further proceedings by the purchase of Mr. Scott’s grant, bv issuing debentures for the amount bearing interest at 8 per cent, the only course which circumstances permitted him to take. The debentures are redeemable in five years, and are chargeable on the land fund of the Province.
