NELSON. [From the Nelson Examiner, November 30.]

New Zealand Flax. — The following letter has been received by a gentleman of Nelson from a manufacturer in Glasgow, to whom had been forwarded a couple of tons of New Zealand flax by the Mariner, with a request that he would favour the shipper with his opinion of the article. The flax sent was obtained from the Maories, and of the ordinary kind. A portion of it was hackled previous to shipment, but the remainder was sent in the state in which it was obtained :—: — " The two bales of flaXj per Mariner, via London, came safely to hand, and, as you desired, I have tried the same in the manufacturing of several articles required in my business, ' and regret to say, that owing to the difficulty of dressing it suitably for fine purposes, the value is thereby lessened to thet of Russian flax, which sells here generally about jS3S per ton. "The bale, No. 1, is the finest I have ever seen of New Zealand flax, but as I think the process of hackling could be done here at a lower rate than with you, I would recommend such only as the bale No. 2, unhackled, to be sent to Great Britain, and for an occasional shipment of ten tons of ths same quality in similar condition, I should be willing to give i 525 per ton, payable on delivery."
