A violent gale tisited Port Louis on the 28th February, and continued until the Ist of March. Many of the vessels in harbour were injured, but the casualties were comparatively trifling. " The damages sustained on shore were mare serious. The Tvhole of the copper covering of the roof of the Custom House and Post Office was blown off, and a large quantity of merchandise on the ground floor damaged ; the roofs' of government buildings covered with slates suffered much, especially Government House ; in almost every court, out-houses, palings, and gates were carried away, and the whole of the bitumen roof of the Barracks was so much damaged as to compel the soldiers to seek other quarters.
