NELSON. [From the Nelson Examiner, March 30.]
Hops. — The cultivation of the hop plant in this settlement has been attended with the greatest success, for not only are the hops grown here of remarkably good flavour, but the quantity produced to the acre is something prodigious. On less than three acres of ground (two of which contain plants only two years old), Mr. Smith grew 3,5501b5. of hops ; and Mr. Jollie, on one acre, grew 1,3001b5. Other persons, we believe, have been equally successful, and the quantity now grown in the settlement is nearly equal to the demand, and next year there will be some for exportation.
