TAHITI.
Little news to communicate, everything going on as quietly as ever. The Marquesas have been abandoned by the French, the frigate Syrene 56 ; corvette, 32 ; schooner Papeite 4 ; armed on Thursday with the remainder of the troops, stores, &c, nothing but about 1500 tons of coals lffc. The Sarah Ann, from Sydney, Russell, sailed for California fourteen days ago ; all well. The Cheerful, Ogilvy, owner, put in here out of everything, and obtained a bottomry for the *ura of two thousand dollars, refreshed and put to sea. The schooner Will Watch, from Sydney, Mr. Hovenden, owner, is here ; it is said he is endeavouring to dispose of her and her cargo, and in treaty for another vessel. The brig Rosalind, of London, which tailed on the reef and was condemned, was sold 'by auction for five hundred pounds to Captain Hunter, a resident, who is preparing to heave her down. The schooner Sultana, formerly the property of Captain Scott, is about to be converted into a powder magazine by the GoverniuaQt.- - „ There-are only two American whaleri, and one French, in the harbour. The John Williams, missionary barque, is now hourly expected from the Navigators. We have Auckland papers early in Dec. by the yacht Wanderer, B. Boyd, . Esq., which arrived after a passage of eighteen, days from Auckland via Tabouia and Malta ;
she anils in a few ' days ,for :the Marquesas, Sandwich Islands; and 7 California. The French! force here at present is about 1,400 troops, one 56 gun frigate,' one corvette, 32, one steam frigate, and. a small schooner, and until yesterday the Kamehatfteka, yacht; taken from the King o.f the Sandwich Islands, which has proceeded on r afi excursion to the Leaward Islands. . The Governor still continues popular with all classes. m Tahiti, December 27.
Postcript. — The schooner Flash has been detained by the heavy surf from getting out. The Petrel, from Sydney, arrived, on the 30th ult., all well. The vessel' out of provisions, and the passengers, owner, crew^ and all bands out of temper with each other. -Yesterday a fine French barque,- the Albert, about 300 tons, in attempting to get into Papeite was carried by the current upon the reef, and is a total wreck ; she bad a valuable cargo from Valparaiso, consisting' of French wines, chocolate, wood, dollars, &c. Vessels in harbour: — English — Wanderer, yacht ; iron schooner Flash, Banes ; Will Watch, Hovenden-; Petrel, schooner, Graham, owner. — Sydney Morning Herald.
