VENICE.

An extraordinary supplement of the Vienna Gazette of the 12th has the following :—: — "Official reports from Trieste announce that the Venetian squadron had sailed oat of the port on the 7th, and Admiral Dahlmp pursued the enemy with the whole of his fleet ; his enemy, without accepting battle, retired towards Venice under cover of the land batteries." A letter from Trieste says :— -" The Brazier, steamer, which quitted Venice yesterday evening, has jrfst brought us terrible news from that city. At her departure several quarters were on fire. The Austrians a few days before succeeded in establishing at San Juliano pieces of 30 and 80, which were hard at work firing, and which sent projectile? to the most distant quarters. It was said at 5 o'clock that a flag was about to be sent to the Austrian camp, but that appears to me doubtful. The population of the city, which was absolutely in want of everything, had evacuated the parts of the town which Were most exposed, and had encamped itr the neighbourhood of St Mark. Venice will not for a long time recover from this terrible crisis, if it escape being entirely destroyed." — Venice capitulated on the 22nd August.
