AT A PUBLIC MEETING of the Holders of Compensation Scrip from the New Zealand Company, held at Barrett's Hotel, on Tuesday the 11th of December last, pursuant to advertisement, the following resolutions were adopted, vizt. : — " That the block of land extending from Wanganui to the Wangaiheu river be declared open for selection, and that parties desirous of selecting in it may do so without reference to their orders of choice." " That parties holding unselected Land Orders intending to choose in the Rangitiki district shall be required to make their selections on or before the 10th January, 1850, at the Rangitiki ; and that after such date all priority of choice in regard to Land Orders shall cease." " That a fresh ballot shall take places immediately of parties holding more than two Scrip each, with the view of enabling them to choose their land in one block should they so require it: and that all selections in respect of Compensation Scrip shall take place at the Rftngitiki on the 10th January, 1850, ifter^the Selections in respect of Land Orders." The following resolutions were then carried unanimously : — Proposed by Major Baker and seconded by Captain Daniell — a "That this Meeting duly appreciating the untiring exertions of Dr. Featherston in advocating the interests of the ' Land Purchasers under the New Zealand ' Company, the masterly manner in which he has combated all difficulties and brought to a successful issue their demands for Compensation, is of opinion that an appropriate testimonial of their gratitude should be presented to him. and that a subscription list be opened for that purpose. Proposed by Mr. Brandon and seconded by Dr. Dorset — '* That a Committee of three be formed to receive subscriptions, and that 'the Committee consist of — Major Baker. Captain Rhodes. Mr. Churton."
