HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
An exhibition of this Society took place yesterday at the Aurora Saloon, Lambton Quay, which proved a very attractive one. The principal strength of the exhibition lay in' the flowers, of which there were several favourable specimens ; among them we noticed some fine cactuses, some nice collections of bulbs, and a well arranged bouquet of choice flowers from Mr. ,, St. Hill's garden. The most remarkable' contribution to the exhibition, however, was a magnificent orange grown in a greenhouse up the Hutt by the Hon. H. Petre, which measured 13| inches in circumference, and from its" hize and beauty attracted general observation ; some orange flowers were also exhibited with the fruit. There were also some fine asparagus from Mr. Petre's garden, some gigantic rhubarb exhibited by Capt. Daniell, and some good frame cucumbers by Mr. Bannatyrie. The number of exhibitors was twenty-seven. The day was remarkably fine, and the room was crowded with visitors. During the exhibition the band of the 65th regiment, by the kind permission of - Colonel Gold, was in attendance and contributed to- the gratification of the visitors by the performance ofan excellent selection of music.
