IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.
HOUSE OF COMMONS.— Monday, June 25. AUSTRALIAN COLONIES BILL. The order of the day for the second reading of the Australian Colonies Bill having been read, Mr. Hawes said that an informality in the bill had been pointed out by the right lion, member for Oxford University (Mr. Gladstone), which would render it necessary for him to withdraw this bill. He would immediately introduce another measure, and no delay would take place, because it would have been impossible to proceed with the present bill for some days. Mr. Gladstone observed, that if the hon. gentleman intended to move that the House should go into committee for the purpose of submitting to that committee a tariff to be imposed in the Australian colonies, lie must not suppose that the measure would pass that stage without discussion. The bill was then by leave withdrawn, and and a new bill was brought in by Mr. Hawes, and was read a first time. Mr. Adderley gave notice that, on the next stage of the bill, he would move certain resolutions as amendments. The second reading of the bill was, after some conversation, fixed for Fiiday, Lord J. Russell being understood to state that he hoped the discussion might be taken on that day.
