To the Editor of the "New Zealand Spectator." Wellington, October 18, 1849.

Sib, — I shall feel greatly obliged if you will insert the enclosed, which is a copy of a letter intended for the Independent, but which the Editor of that paper did not think proper to publish, as will be seen on reference to his notice to Correspondents in last Saturday's paper, wherein he refers me to the Secretary of my lodge. 1 have (for forms sake) acted according to his advice, and I find that individual as ignorant upon the subject as myself. (I was, of course, previously aware of this.) Seeing that the Editor of the Independent denies the parties referred to the opportunity of answering my interrogations in that paper, and likewise that, having followed his advice,- 1 am still in the dark, and likely to remain so, I am induced to submit them to you, hoping that you will prove mon obliging than your contemporary. I remain, Sir, Your most obedient servant, T. P- S. — I trust that no one will mistake my motives for having adopted this line of proceeding ; my desire is to place the Odd Fellows of Wellington right in the public estimation, and in a position worthy of the Order. So that, should any parties, by pursuing a line of policy contrary to the wishes of the majority, get themselves into a hobble, the censure or ridicule may not fall upon those undeserving it.
