SYDNEY.
Steam Communication with England. — We take from the Melbourne Herald the following paragraph iv reierence to this all important matter :—: — " We are in a position to state ' on authority,' tliat the ' Oriental Steam Navigation Company* have concluded a contract with the Government to run a steamer to Australia from England. His Excellency when here, received official information of this fact by Monday's overland mail. The Torres Straits route, we regret to aM, has heen fixed upon as an experiment; the Swan River route, in our opinion, bjing far preferable. The mere announcement of the fact that steam communication with our colony is at lnst arranged must suffice to-day." — Aust. Sport., Mar. 31.
