ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS TO GOVERNOR GREY. Downing-street, July 14, 1848.

The Queen has been pleased to issue the following additional instructions, under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet, to the Go-vernor-in-Chief of New Zealand, for repealing the 6th section of tie 14th chapter of the Royal Instructions to that officer, respecting the Aborigines of that colony : Whereas, in pursuance of an Act of Parliament, made and enacted in the ninth and tenth years of our reign, intituled "An Act to make further provision for the Government of the New Zealand Islands," we did, by certain letters patent under the Great Seal 0/ ouri United Kingdom, bearing date at Westminster the 23rd day of December, 1846, in the tenth year of our reign, execute certain of the powers in us by the said Act vested ; and whereas, in further pursuance of the said Act, and in exercise of all and every other the powers thereby in us vested, and in exercise of all and every other the powers in us in that behalf vested, we did further issue certain instructions under our sign manual and signet, approved in our Privy Council, being the instructions accompanying or referred to in such letters patent, as relation being had unto the said letters patent and instructions will more fully and at large appear. And whereas it is directed by the sixth section of the fourteenth., chapter of the said instructions,^ being the chapter entitled " respecting the aborigines of New Zealand," that in cases arising between the aboriginal inhabitants of New Zealand alone, beyond the limits of the said aboriginal districts, and in whatever relates to the relations to and the dealings of such aboriginal inhabitants with each other beyond the same limits, the courts and magistrates of the entire province, or of the district in which such cases may arise, shall enforce such native laws, customs, and usages as aforesaid." And whereas by the said recited Act it is enacted, that it shall be lawful for us, from time to time, to amend, aud for that purpose to add to, or if necessary to repeal any such instructions. And whereas it hath appeared to us expedient to repeal the sixth section of the fourteenth chapter of the instructions aforesaid ; now, therefore, by virtue of the power in us by the said Act vested, we do hereby repeal the sixth section of the fourteenth chapter of our said instructions, and the same is hereby repealed accordingly.
