To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator. Wellington, 18th January, 1840.
Sib, — Observing in the Independent a letter signed Francis Bradey, in which the writer charges Mr. ftobert Stolies the Treasurer of the Horticultural Society, with having " dictated to the judges in a most unauthorised and unwarrantable manner, endeavouring to induce the judges to award prizes to ' such as he considered most deserving," I think it right to state that I have frequently acted as-judge at the Horticultural exhibitions, and that I have never witnessed "any interference on the part of Mr. I Stokes or any other member of the Committee, but that the proceedings have always been conducted on such, occasions in the most impartial manner. I am, sir, Your obedient servant, W. B. Rhodes.
