ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator. Wellington, December 4,1848.
Sir, — Being indignant at the very- scurrilous production in last Wednesday's Independent, from a person signing himself «.'^n J old Colonist,", and, moreorer, finding, Jfcat' he claimed forrhimself.to expound the sentiments of lf the inhabitants 'generally,'^ I wrote the following in reply, nbt to «nligti* ten the Wellington people on the subject^ hat for
the sake of the parties at home, and in the neighbouring settlements, who might perchance think that the Independent was the mouthpiece of this community. The letter was in the office of the editors on Thursday last, but was not suffered to appear in that Independent publication. It gave place to their very lucid account of the Thursday night meeting. Will you give it a place in your Journal, and oblige your obedient servant, Consistency.
