HORTICULTURAL EXHIBITION.
The first exhibition this season took place yesterday afternoon at the Britannia Saloon, Lambfon Quay, There was a very good col-lection-of flowers, which were the principal attraction ; the fruit and vegetables were not very numerous, it being rather early in the season, The bulbs were particularly fine, comprising -many., choice varieties. There was also a magnificent bouquet exhibited by Mr. St. Hill, containing a great variety of choice .flowers, including several kinds of Cape plants, and a floral device by Mr. Hort, which "attracted a good deal of attention.* J The strawberries were of,a very large sizei-^ind some ripe cherries of Mr. Hornbro'ok's, not intended for competition, were very fine imd unusually early.- There was a very numerous attendance of visitors, and the Band of the 65th Regiment, by an excellent selection of music, materially; contributed to the afternoon's amusement. O^ Friday last, as some children were playing near a hole filled with water 1 6n Mr. Rll'odes's station at Burnham water, one of them, a boy named Howell, about two years old; fell into the hole ; the other children alarmed, ran to'Howell's parents to inform them of the accident, but the child was' unfortunately drowned^before his parents could arrive on "the spot to render any assistance.
