Mr. Bankes having alluded to the statement of Lord Palmerston, that the correspondence between Mr. Bulwer and the Duke de Sotomayor was private, and having seen the duke's letter in the public papers, begged to know whether that was one of the notes of which the noble lord spoke ; and, if it were, whether the noble lord had any objection to lay it on the table of the house, together with any other correspondence which might have passed between the parties ? Lord Palmerston : I stated yesterday that I was in daily expectation of a messenger from the British Minister in Spain ; and I have now to state that he arrived this morning with a despatch, from which I find that Sir Henry Bulwer, on the 17th, was about to leave Madrid, he having received his passports'from the Spanish Government — (Hear, hear.) 1 shall certainly feel it my duty to lay farther papers before the house ; and I hope to be able to present them on Thursday next. In reply to Mr. Anstey, the noble lord said, that Mr. Bulwer was not appointed to another post, and his leaving Spain did not indicate any rupture between the countries. THE DERBY. Lord G. Bentiuck, with the full assent of the Government, moved that the house adjourn at its rising over the Derby day. Mr. Bright asked if they were to have a holiday for the Derby why not have a holiday for the Oaks 1 (Loud laughter, and cries of II move, move.")
