Mr. Hulrac, the Judge at Hong Kong who was suspended by the Jate Governor Sir E. Davis, has been re-instated in his office, by order of Lord Grey. Principal Clerk or the House of Lords. — It is generally understood that the present Solicitor-General, Sir David Dundas, will be appointed to the office of Principal Clerk to the House of Lords, vacant by the sudden death of the late lamented Mr. Currey. Tt is also rumoured that either Mr. Watson or Mr. J. Romilly, the son of the late Sir Samuel Romilly, and the present member for Devonport, will be appointed So-licitor-General in the room cf Sir David Dundas. The Cruikshank Testimonial. — The proposal for a testimonial to George Cruikshank is assuming substance and shape, a committee having been formed for the v purpose of taking the necessary steps to carry the project into effect. It is not, however, as yet decided what the form of testimonial shall be ; and the decision will no doubt be in some degree dependent on the amoiint of the subscriptions. The officers and crew of the Queen's sloop Snake have been tried by a Naval Courtmartial, at Portsmouth, for the loss of the Snake on the East coast of Africa, near Mozambique. The Commander, Mr. Thomas Bourmaster Brown, and the Master, Mr. Peter Chown, were found to have lost the ship from " not using sufficient care" ; *nd they were each sentenced to lose one year's 1 rank.
