New Zealand Spectator, AND COOK'S STRAIT GUARDIAN. Saturday, August 5, 1848.

Through the kindness of Capt. Mills, of the Subraon, we have received Sydney pa-

pers containing the latest news from Europe, whichis of such importance that with the view of publishing as mu#h as possible in our present number, we have been obliged to omit the news received by the Victory, and other intelligence of a local nature.

Thb Kelso arrived on Wednesday from Twofold Bay via Nelson, with a well-selected cargo of stock in first-rate order, which we observe is to be sold, on Tuesday next, when we doubt not they will attract a numerous attendance of purchasers.

Thb Agnes Hay arrived on Wednesday from Otakou ; she has brought the mail of the Victory, which liad arrived at that settlement. The Cornelia was advertized to sail from London for Wellington the, Ist April, and would be followed by the Blvndell.

The Subraon arrived on Thursday evening, from Newcastle, after a boisterous passage of seventeen days, (having met with contrary winds in the Straits,) with a cargo of stock which havebeen landed in excellent condition. The cattle are the produce of Durham and Hereford bulls and imported cows, and the horses are mostly of the celebrated Ravensworth stud, bred by Dr. Bowman. When a short distance from this Port, Mr. Hudson, the owner of the sheep jumped overboard while labouring under a fit of delirium tremens, and the wind blowing a gale at the time rendered any attempt to save him perfectly hopeless.

It is reported that H. M. S. Fly will sail on Monday for Nelson and Akaroa.

Erratum. — Through an error in the Press, in our last number, the price of Flour in Messrs. Ridgways, Hickson, and Co's, advertisement was stated to be £11 10s. per ton instead of £14 10s. per ton.

Debentures. — Six of Captain Fitzroy's One Pound Debentures were sold by auction by Messrs. James Smith and Co., on Thursday last, at ten shillings each, or half their nominal value.
