PUBLIC MEETING.
A Meeting of the Subscribers for repairing the public thoroughfare along Lambton- quay, was held on Monday afternoon, at Mr. Rowland Davis Commercial Room, for the purpose of making the necessary arrangements for carrying out the objects of the subscrip-, tion. On the motion of Mr. Moore, seconded by Mr. Alzdorf, Mr. Stokes was called to the chair. The following resolutions were then passed unanimously :—: — Moved by Mr. Moore, seconded by Mr. Brady — That a footpath be constructed, of the average width of seven feet (where the width of the loadway will admit of it), from the corner of Sydney Street, to the New Church in Willis Street, with posts at intervals of twenty feet, aud that his Excellency the Lteutenaut-Go-vernor be requested to proclaim the same a footpath of the town of Wellington under the provisions of the Footpath Ordinance. Moved by Mr. Christian, seconded by Mr. Duncan — , That the remainder of the subscription, andthe amount to be contributed by the Government, be spent in repairing, as far as the funds will admit, the roadway along X»mb ton-quay.
That a .committee, consisting of the five following persons, Messrs. Stokes, Alzdorf, Bannatyne, Moore, and Spinks, be appointed to collect the subscriptions, and to manage the employment of the funds to r the best advan- - tage. ' . Moved by Mr. Fitzherbert, seconded by Mr. M'Beth— That contracts be entered into, where practicable, for the performance of all or any portion of the works to be executed. A vote of thanks was then given to the chairman, after which the meeting broke up.
