The Grand Jury found a true bill against J. Goodwin and W. Hackett, for burglary, and ignored a bill against D. Jefferson, for stealing spirits at Otakou. There were two other cases : in the first the prosecutrix did not appear ; in the other (a charge of robbery), several witnesses being absent, the trial was postponed on affidavit. John Goodwin and William Hackett, privates in the 65th regiment, were indicted for breaking into the Highlander publichouse, Kaiwarra, and stealing a watch and chain, The evidence was conclusive against both prisoners, who were both found guilty ; and Hackett was sentenced to twelve months', and Goodwin to six months' imprisonment.
