New Zealand Spectator, AND COOK'S STRAIT GUARDIAN. Saturday, April 22, 1848.
The extreme importance and unusual interest of the debate on New Zealand affairs in the House of Commons has induced us to print it entire, and to accomplish this we have published a supplement with our present number. The latest English dates received at Sydney were to the 16th Dec. The December mail had not arrived, the Post Office Packets being proverbially slow sailers. The November mail for Wellington had been sent in the Star of China to Taranaki, where it is possible it may remain for some time.
The Government Brig Victoria arrived yesterday, after a passage of nine days from Auckland. It is reported that H.M.S. Fly
was to leave Auckland three days after the Victoria for Wellington, to relieve H.M.S. Racehorse.
