RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Wellington, 10th April, 1847.

Before Henry St. Hill, Esq., R.M. Titnoti, an aboriginal native, applied to the Resident Magistrate for his interference in consequence of another native named Reweti having killed two of his pigs. The Magistrate having taken his information, is-

sued a warrant against Reweti, and forthwith despatched an European and a native police, man with the complainant to Ohariu. In the course of the afternoon of the same day, however, complainant returned to the Resident Magistrate and informed him that Reweti, having seen the warrant, had agreed to give him (complainant) compensation for the loss of his pigs. Complainant having consented to this arrangement the warrant was stayed. On the same day Manehera, a native residing at Ngahauranga, applied to the Resident Magistrate under the following circumstances: He stated that on the previous Saturday, after the korero at Government House about the land claims, he was assaulted by Warepori, a young chief of Pipitea. He said that Warepori had broken a stick across his back, that he was not desirous of having him punished, but that he wished the Resident Magistrate would desire his attendance at the Court and in the presence of some of the chiefs admonish him on the impropriety of his conduct, which the Magistrate promised to do.

The following extracts are from the United Service Gazette, Nov. 20: — Fly, 18, Com. Oliver, was paid advance of wages ou the 15th, and sailed on the 16th with despatches, for New Zealand. It is intended for the future to keep a permanent naval force at New Zealand. It will consist of one frigate, one sloop of war, and a steam sloop. Orders have been sent out to form a naval depot at Auckland, and such stores and provisions as cannot be procured at that colony will be sent out from England.
