Our extracts from the Blue book in our present number consist of the confidential despatches of his Excellency the Governor, containing his objections to the new Constitution as set forth in the Charter and Royal Instructions. Want of room obliges us to defer our observations upon them to another opportunity.
On Saturday last, Ist April, the sum of £1100, being the second instalment of the purchase money for the Porirua and Wairau districts, was paid to the Ngatitoa tribe in the presence of his Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and Liet. Col. M'Cleverty,
the special Commissioner. The money was paid to the natives named in the deed, who would distribute it among the different members of the tribe entitled to receive payment.
The Barque Raymond arrived last night from Twofold Bay, after an excellent run of nine days, with a cargo of stock consisting of maiden ewes, cows, steers and heifers, which owing to the very favourable passage are in first rate order.
It is reported that H.M.S. Racehorse will shortly return to England, and that she will be relieved on this station by H.M.S. Fly.
Akaroa. — We understand that the settlers at Akaroa complain greatly that there is no minister of religion of any denomination in that settlement. Some of them are anxious to be married, and others who are parents, are very desirous to have their children christened : we sincerely hope they will not suffer much longer from this state of spiritual destitution.
Quantity of rain fallen in the month of March, one inch two-tenths.
Wellington Savings Bank. — Major A. Hornbrook, Mr. A. Hort, sen., Rev. S. Ironside, and Mr. W. Hickson, the Managers in rotation, will attend to receive deposits at Messrs. Johnson & Moore's store, Lambton-quay, from seven to eight o'clock on Saturday evening, the Bth April, and at the Union Bank of Australia, from twelve to one o'clock, on Monday forenoon, the 10th April. The Superintending Committee will meet at Barrett's Hotel, on Monday evening next, the 10th instant, at 8 o'clock.
