HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the Subscribers to this Society was held at Barrett's Hotel, on Wednesday evening last,(Mr. J. M. Taylor in the chair) for the purpose of electing the officers for the present year and receiving the Treasurer's accounts. The Treasurer submitted the following Financial Statement to the Meeting: —

The following resolutions were then passed unanimously : — Moved by Mr. St. Hill seconded by Mr. Stokes — That a sub-committee consisting of Mr. Moore, Major Baker, and Mr. Taylor be ap. pointed to collect the arrears of subscriptions. Moved by Mr. St. Hill seconded by Mr. Moore — That the following gentlemen be elected officers of the Society for the present year : — PATRONS. His Excellency the Governor-in-Chief. His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor. The Lord Bishop of New Zealand. PRESIDENT. Colonel Wakefield. VICE PRESIDENTS. Mr. Justice Chapman. Lieutenant- Colonel M'Cleverty. W. Swainson, Esq.. F.R.S. Captain W. M. Smith, R. A. COMMITTEE. Mr. Hickson,-Mr. J. M. Taylor, Mr. Ross, Mt. Brandon^ Mr. Moore, Mr. Bfffdey f U/Ir. Revans,.Mr. St. Hill, Major Baker, Mr. Hort, Mr. Wilkinson, Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Hurst, Mr. Ludlam, Mr. Waitt, Mr. M'Donald, Mr. Dorset, Mr. Levin, Mr. Varnham, Mr. Lewis, Mr. Bold, Mr. Langdon, Mr. Spinks. Treasurer — Mr. Stokes. Secretary — Mr. G. Moore. Moved by Mr. Moore seconded by Mr. Levin — That the Society desire to record, on the retirement of Dr. Featherston from the office of Secretary, their deep sense of his valuable and efficient services during the six years in which he has held the office. Moved by Mr. Levin seconded by Mr. Spinks — That a sub-committee be appointed to collect donations for the purpose of forming the Botanical Garden. Moved by Mr. Levin seconded by Mr. Bradey — " That the exhibitions be held on the first Tues- " day in November 1848, the second Tuesday in January 1849, and the first Tuesday in March 1849. '

Moved by Mr. J. Boulcott seconded by Mr. Spinks — That the thanks of the Society 'be voted to the officers of the past year. •
