[From the Sydney Morning Herald, Feb. 21, 22.] We regret to say that the wool sales are much more unfavourable than we supposed. The prices are fearfully low. The brokers say the reduction is nearly fourpence a pound. The cholera had broken out in the east of Europe, and it was feared that it would gradually spread over the entire continent, and reach England. Precautionary measures were being taken. The Archbishop of York died on the sth November, at the advanced age of ninety years, fifty-seven of which he had been a bishop. There had been, several changes in the Government department — Mr. James Stephen, so long Under-Secretary of 3'ate for the Colonial Department, had resigned his office, and as a mark of respect had been created a Privy Councillor. Mr. Merivale had been appointed to succeed him : this gentleman had not, we believe, hitherto held officp, but is favourably knowu from the lectures on colon'zation, which he delivered at Oxford a few years since, where he was Professor of Political Economy. Mr. Porter, so well known as a statistical writer, had been promoted to the Under-Secretaryship of the Board of Trade, and was succeeded in the Statistical Depaitment by Mr. Fonblanque, Editor of the Examiner. The Rev. J. P. Lee, formerly second master with Dr. Arnold, at Rugby, has been appointed to the new see of Manchester. . Jerome Buonaparte, ex-King of Westphalia, has arrived hi Paris, afier having been an exile from France for thirty- three, years. A corvette, belonging to the Emperor of Morocco, has captured a felucca, uuder the Turkish flag, coming from Gibraltar with arms and ammunition for Abd-el-Kader. Mr. Cobdeu, M.P., ai rived in London on the 11th of October, from Hamburgh. Several houses in Hamburgh are sufferei s 10 a great extent by the recent failures in England, and at Bremen one of the largest houses has been compelled to suspend payment. Sir William Colebrook is appointed Lieut. - Governor of British Guiana. Governor Light retires for the present. The Dublin Evening Packet announces the immediate creation of three new Peers — Sir Charles Coote, Lord Chief Justice Doherty, and Sir John Cam Hobhouse.

The Decimal Coinage. — The first of these new coins, agreeable to the plan of Mr. Sheil, will be a tvvo-slr.lling piece. The design has been completed by Mr. Wyon, of the Royal Mint, and displays great chaste ness and artistical taste. The obverse will display a figure of her Majesty, the head being surrounded by a wreath of laurels. The reverse will be a Gothic design ; but until the coin is completed, any detailed description will be premature. By a ministerial rescript, Dissenters have become disqualified to fill the posts of teachers in public institutions in Breslau.
