To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator. Wellington, March 4, 1848.
Sir, — Observing in your Journal of the first instant, the publication of my name (with the affix of Sheriff and Police Magistrate), as one of the original purchasers of land in this settlement who did not sign the Letter to the Director! of the New Zealand Company claiming compensation, I beg to remark, that my reason for not having subscribed the letter in question was, not because I held office under the Local Government, but because the sentiments embodied in that document were such as I could not concur in ; and because its whole tone and character were hostile to my feelings. I am, Sir, Your most obedient servant, Henry St. Hill.
