COALIN WESTERN AUSTRALIA.

Coal. — Dr. Yon Sommer, just returned from bis expedition to the Coal district, pronounces it " the greatest coal-field perhaps in the world" — certainly the greatest that he had ever heard of — one seam twelve feet thick. He traced the coal itself forty-five miles, and the shales, &c, about one hundred. "It is now, " he says, " almost a matter of certainty that it will be at the surface on the shore of Shark's Bay." He is to go there as soon as the Champion returns. He now proceeds to follow it from the bed of the Moore River, where he left it, or rather the last shale stratum overlaying it, through the Avon bed. He says it will come out on the coast at " Cape Rich" (about sixty- miles east of King George's Sound.) — South Aus. Register.
