LIVERPOOL WOOL SALES.
Liverpool, August 6. — We never remember a more numerous attendance of the trade than at the public sales yesterday and to-da^ . The quantity of fine colonial, although small excited a most animated competition. A great part of these wools were by no m^ans of a superior character ; still the whole sold with spirit, at an advance of fully Id. to l^d. per lb. on the prices of the late sales here and in London. Notwithstanding/the advance in. the grain market consequent on the unfavourable change in the weather, and the renewed prei-
sure in the money market, both circumstances strongly calculated to act against the sales ; we are, therefore, glad to have it in our power to report so favourable a result. Clean, light conditioned wools have commanded most attention, and brought relatively higher prices than the heavier kinds, and particularly such as were infected with burs and grass ■ seeds, which, descriptions are getting more into disrepute ; and we expect this will become more 'the case, as the arrivals from the River Plate and other quarters come in more freely ; and, as they are taking great pains to remove this disadvantage, which is particularly apparent in the best managed flocks lately received from Monte Video and Buenos Ayres, it is imperative on the Australian colonies to pay the greatest attention in this respect. There was a very small proportion of good combing wool in these sales. We regret to notice the continued depression in this branch, of trade, which has- now- prevailed for nearly two years; but still we would recommend'a 'carefifl classification of combing and clothing qualities, as it thereby improves the appearance of each. In low wools, East India, Egyptian, and all other useful qualities, met with a ready sale, and at full rates. The assortment vi Buenos Ayres compiised chiefly middle and mixed qualities, for which there is very little demand: the greater part was consequently withdrawn: the same witii regard to Turkish wool, for which, however, we have found more enquiry since the sales, and at better prices than could there be obcained. .
