INPORTANT FROM MEXICO. CAPTURE OF VERA CRUZ AND SAN JUAN DE ULLOA.
By the arrival at Liverpool of the ship Arcole,vre are put in possession of the important news that the city of Vera Cruz and the Castle of San Juan de Ulloa, surrendered to the American forces on the 29th March, after a destructive bombardment of the city, in which nearly 1000 Mexicans are said to have been either killed or wounded, and with no greater loss to the Americans than seven officers and fifty-eight men killed and wounded. The bombardment lasted three days and a half. Among the killed on the Mexican side was General Felix Yaldez, an officer of some celebrity. The destruction ofpropertyinthis city, and loss of life among the women and children, was very severe, one half of Vera Cruz being reported to be in ruins.
