The Steamer " Juno" — This fine frigate built steamer came to an anchor, with a cargo of sheep, cattle, and horses, on the morning of Wednesday, at half-past ten, having left Sydney heads on the evening of Monday the 14th ult. Her voyage was unfortunately prolonged by a heavy north east gale; on the evening of the 23rd the gale subsided, and veering to the west left a severe cross-sea, causing the vessel to send heavy, which broke the pintles of her rudder, and it instantly sunk. In this dilemma, the vessel proved herself an excellent seaboat, having damaged no part of her hull, nor shipped a sea. The sea being so heavy during the three following days, no assistance could be given to the vessel. On the 26th a temporary rudder was constructed and shipped, which brought her safely to anchor in the Bay of Islands, steaming at about half her speed. Having lengthened her temporary rudder, she again proceeded to sea, on the afternoon of Sunday, the 4th, but meeting a very severe sea off the Heads, the welding which had been done in the Bay gave, and she was again obliged to return to her anchorage. Another temporary rudder was constructed, and she sailed for this port at three o'clock on the evening of Tuesday the 6th, making the run from heads to heads in fifteen hours with a contrary wind. Out of 1000 sheep, 79 head of cattle, she landed 670 sheep, and 48 cattle, having lost none of her horses.— - New Zealonder. ' We regret to announce the death of Captain Dillon, whose voyages and adventures among the natives of the islands in the Pacific, are familiar to every reader, and who it will be recollected , discovered and brought to France the remnants of the Astrolabe, the sole relics of the unfortunate La Perouse and his companions. Captain Dillon died almost suddenly. — Galignani.
