SYDNEY.

Military Movements. — Peremptory orders have been received to reduce the military force in this colony to one regiment. Two regiments are in future to be stationed in Van Diemen's Land, and two in New Zealand. The 58'h regiment will proceed to New Zealand in the course of next month. No definite arrangements as to the exact time of removal or mode of conveyance have yet been made, but it is probable that the Pestonjee BomanJee now at Norfolk Island, may take one detachment, and that the Thomas Lowry on her return from North Australia, being under charter to the Commissariat Department, may take the remainder. The head quarters of the 99th will remain in Sydney, and all the out-stations will be supplied with detachments from that regiment, so that the number of troops remaining in Sydney will be very small. — Sydney Morning Herald, April 3. The 41b. loaf was selling in London, the 14th November, frcm 7d. to Bd., according to quality, which is the same price as now charged in Sydney, yet wheat in England is 9s. to 9s. 6d. per bushel, while in Sydney it is only 3s. 6d. to 4s. 3d. Success to baking in Sydney ! J ! With the material at half price, the manufactured article is- soldi£t~the Londou price ! Quere therefore, if the profits of wheat at 9s. 3d. afford in London a fair living, what sort of a living is that gained in Sydney with wheat at 45., the price of the loaf being the same in both cases ?
