GOVERNMENT NOTICE. Engineer Contracts at Wellington. Commissariat Office, Wellington, 21st January, 1847. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, That Sealed Tenders, in duplicate, will be received at this Office, until Saturday, the 6th February next, at noon, for the erection of the undermentioned Buildings ; or separate tenders will be received for the execution of any portion of the work of either building, with or without the building materials being furnished by the party contracting : — Ist, Temporary Wooden Barracks and OutBuildings, to be erected near the Gaol in Wellington, according to plans and specifications to be seen at the Royal Engineer Office, Welling-

Each Tender must be marked on the envelope, " Tender for Engineer Servicet, '' and must be accompanied by a written statement of two persons, expressing their willingness, in the event of the tender being accepted, to become bound for the due fulfilment of the Contract, >the penalty of the bond being equal to half the sum required for the performance of the engagement G. RACES.

Conditions of HURDLE RACE for the Surplus Fund of the Anniversary Fete, to be run for on WEDNESDAY next, February 3, 1847, At One o'clock, P.M. Hurdle Race.

For Horses of all ages, catch weights. Heats, twice round the course (Te Aro), and a distance, over seven leaps, three feet six inches in height. Entrance, £2; 2 each ;

And all subscriptions to be added to the Stakes. Entrances to be made on Monday evening next, at from 8 to 10 o'clock, p.m., at Barrett's Hotel. v The above race will be op?n to all riders. Should any dispute arise, the same to be settled by the Committee, whose decision will be final. The winner of the race to pay all expenses incurred in preparing the course, &c. No person qualified to enter any horse who is not a subscriber of one pound. Second horse to save his Stakes. - Any horse taking the Hurdles after entrance to be disqualified.'
