Extract of a private letter from Wanganui, dated January 4th, 1847. : — " Mr. M'Lean arrived here from Taranaki on the 29th ult., in expectation of meeving the Governor; on the 30th H.M. Racehorse arrived from "Wellington with troops, and the , gun-boat from Porirua, which were landed here ; she sailed on the Ist Jan. for Taranaki. On the 4th Jan., a finj schooner of about 35 tons, was launched which"was called the Governor Grey, in compliment to his Excellency. She was built by a person of the name of WalLer, asA4s considered a very^favourable specimen of Wanganui skill. She is owned by Messrs. Taylor and Watt of this place, and will he employed by them in the Wanganui trade. A great deal of anxiety is felt here on account of the Governor's sudden departure from Wellington, and various speculations are indulged in as to the cause ; it is hoped however that nothing may occur to interfere with his present arrangements as regards this place."
